What got you into football?
I started playing football at the age of 6 with Sliema Wanderers FC Nursery. A friend of mine at school had encouraged me to join him at the nursery which I did thanks to the support of my family.
What is your training schedule like?
We train around 1hr 45mins every day. We have a rest day once a week normally 2 days after we play the league match.
What is your most memorable game?
I must say 2016 was a memorable year. In May 2016 we (Sliema Wanderers FC) won the Maltese FA Trophy for the 21st time. As captain this was my first Trophy therefore I was lucky to lift the cup at the end of a very tight match which ended with penalties after a 0-0 draw against Balzan FC.
In the same year in October 2016 I played with the National Team against England at the Wembley stadium. I must say this was the most prestigious game I played during my career and the day turned to be memorable for me since on the day my second son Max was born!!
Who inspires you?
When I was young Noel Turner was my inspiration locally since he was and still is a Legend at Sliema Wanderers FC. Internationally I always admired Paolo Maldini since I play in the same position he does and when I was young he was the best full back around!
Do you have any advice for anyone looking to get into football professionally?
You have to train hard and practice every day and take it seriously if you want to be a successful footballer. You have to sacrifice your social life meaning that whilst your friends might be out enjoying themselves whilst you have to rest and stay at home to make sure you are ready for the weekends match. If you are not ready to sacrifice you will never make it.
Beyond football are you interested in other sports?
Yes I love sports in general. In fact when we are during our summer break I try to practice other sports like Tennis and Squash. Apart from that I follow a lot sports internationally.
What would you like to achieve before retiring from football?
My last wish is to be able to win the Championship as captain with my club Sliema Wanderers FC. Hopefully I will manage to achieve this before I retire.
Talking of retirement, do you have plans for your post-football life?
I see myself being part of the Administration at Sliema Wanderers FC. I’m already involved in this therefore this is something I’d love to do. I want to use my experience in football to help my club grow and become more professional.
